When You Need Furnace Replacement
It can be tough to know when it’s time to replace your furnace instead of repairing it. We can help you figure out the best course of action.
There are a few indicators that furnace replacement might be the way to go:
- Frequent, costly repairs
- Reduced efficiency
- Furnace is more than 15 years old
- Bills increasing without any changes
According to some experts, if a repair costs 30% of what a new furnace would cost, you should choose a replacement. Others increase this figure to 50%. You may have some concerns of your own, such as your current financial situation.
If energy efficiency is a top priority for you, you might consider a furnace replacement sooner rather than later. Newer furnaces are generally more efficient, and we can help you select a model with efficiency in mind.
There are other factors to consider as well when it comes to furnace installation. These include how big your home is and your preferred fuel source. How many windows you have and the condition of your insulation are also factors.
A furnace that is too large for your home can be as bad as one that is too small. Too-small furnaces short cycle, meaning that they shut on and off before completing a normal 15-minute cycle. This can wear your furnace out at a faster rate, waste energy, and lead to uneven heating.
A too-big furnace experiences a short burst of air followed by an immediate shutdown. This is because the furnace heats the home too fast. It reaches the thermostat’s set temperature before it can circulate the heat throughout the house.
We’ll check your ductwork and make sure it’s in good condition. Depending on your furnace’s energy source, you may need a gas or propane line. We’ll check any electrical connections as well.
Once we’ve completed the installation, we’ll test to make sure that the furnace is completing cycles. In addition, we’ll do an airflow test and explain its operation to you.
